7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brundon Matthews! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matthews is looking to clinch. Matthews closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Matthews is defending well against a takedown attempt. Matthews lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Progbeniak backwards.
It looks like Aleksandr Progbeniak has been cut. Progbeniak jumps guard.
Progbeniak looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Progbeniak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Progbeniak bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Matthews's guard. Progbeniak would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Progbeniak wants to pass the guard but Matthews is keeping the position. Progbeniak sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Matthews's guard. Matthews tries to roll over but Progbeniak keeps him under control. This has been an exciting period of action! Progbeniak is thwarting Matthews's attempts to control the position. Progbeniak perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Progbeniak trying to control from half guard but Matthews is working away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matthews can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matthews is looking to escape. Progbeniak passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Matthews! Progbeniak moves to the back position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Matthews rolls, trying to escape but Progbeniak keeps control of the position.
Progbeniak scores with punches and elbows. Progbeniak has his arm under Matthews's chin here. Game over son! Progbeniak squeezes tightly and Matthews is forced to tap out!
