The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shinjo with a lazy takedown attempt and Macdonald counters with a left and a right that stings Shinjo. Macdonald lands a big shot that drops Shinjo! Can he finish him?
It looks like Sean Shinjo has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Macdonald's corner is telling him to maintain position. Macdonald wants to stand and escape but instead Shinjo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Shinjo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sean Shinjo's cut is getting worse. Excellent takedown into side control there by Shinjo. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. You can see the frustration on Macdonald's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Macdonald takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Shinjo is looking to take a break and control but Macdonald is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Macdonald avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Shinjo. Macdonald parries the strikes from Shinjo easily there. Shinjo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Macdonald to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Macdonald tries to escape but Shinjo is in control. Shinjo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Shinjo working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Macdonald wants to control but Shinjo postures up. Macdonald wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Shinjo has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Macdonald's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Macdonald is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Shinjo!
