Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeff Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Denbow! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Alyssa Summers and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns throws a lazy head kick and Denbow counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Burns throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Denbow would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Burns on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Burns tries to get out of the position. Burns kicks Denbow off and gets to his feet. Burns throws a sloppy head kick and Denbow moves out of range easily. Denbow will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Denbow shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Burns pinned against the cage. Burns gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Denbow shoots in for a takedown but Burns shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jeff Burns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Denbow. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Burns throws a sloppy head kick and Denbow moves out of range easily. Denbow fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Burns leaves Denbow with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Burns misses with a head kick.
Denbow shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burns is trying desperately to improve position. Burns wants to control but Denbow is having none of it. Burns looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight. Burns slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Burns is looking to control Denbow's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Burns avoid being mounted? Denbow trying to control from Burns's half guard. Burns has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Denbow tries to stand but Burns is controlling from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Denbow trying to control the position from guard on top but Burns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burns controlling Denbow's posture.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Some wild striking there from Burns.
Burns displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Denbow. Denbow tries for a takedown but Burns sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Burns misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Denbow avoids a punch combination nicely.
Burns pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Burns looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Michael Denbow. I think Denbow has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
