PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Berendt Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Rob Zombie - Never Gonna Stop as his entrance music. Renato James will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Berendt Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renato James!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James is looking to clinch.

Hansen moves into range and clinches up with James.
James drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hansen pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hansen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
James tries to clinch up
and Hansen counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Hansen tries to bum rush James with a series of wild strikes but James uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
James fails with the takedown

and Hansen counters with a nice double leg into side control. James won't be happy with that.
James is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hansen asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Hansen connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused James some visible discomfort.
James manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hansen is trying to stand.
Hansen trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Hansen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

James stalling.
Hansen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hansen.

James gets to his feet. Hansen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hansen wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.
Hansen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hansen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

James misses the shot to the body.
James looks for a takedown but Hansen sprawls well.
Berendt Hansen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renato James.
James takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nice takedown defense from James. No joy for Hansen on that attempt.
Hansen is breathing heavily.

Hansen gets a clinch.
James lands an elbow just above Hansen 's eye.

Hansen decides to pull guard.

Hansen is looking to stand up but James isn't so interested in that idea.
James controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

I looks like James might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Hansen is retaining full guard.

James works a leg free and moves into half guard.

James decides to return to a standing position.

Hansen clinches up against the cage.
Hansen could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
James with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Hansen looking to throw knees to the head but James is blocking nicely.
Hansen throws a punch but it's blocked by James.

James prevents Hansen from breaking the clinch.
James lands a damaging elbow.
James tries to pull guard but Hansen won't allow it.
James is looking to break free of the clinch but Hansen has double underhooks.
Knees in the clinch landing for James.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Hansen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but James gets the underhooks and prevents it.
James is trying to break the clinch but Hansen has him pressed against the cage.
James blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Hansen breaks from the clinch.
James tries to clinch up.
James fails with the takedown.

James closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
James lands an elbow inside that Hansen shrugs off.
James wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nice sprawl there from James as Hansen shoots in.
Hansen misses with a two punch combination.

Hansen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hansen tries to get out of the position.

James is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hansen rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hansen takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
James is breathing heavily.
Hansen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hansen tries to score a body lock takedown but James shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Hansen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hansen tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
James wants to get back to his feet but Hansen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

James is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Hansen pulls his head out easily.

James is controlling Hansen's position as best he can from this difficult position.

James wants to improve his position but Hansen is controlling well.
Hansen is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
James is trying is best to control the position here.
Renato James has got the better of the ground game so far.
James is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James tries to clinch
and Hansen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
James blocks a head kick by Hansen.
Hansen takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Hansen gets the takedown into side control.
James tries to buck Hansen off but Hansen is having none of it.

Hansen decides to stand back up. Hansen steps back and let's James get back to his feet.
Hansen stuns James with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
James looks to clinch

and Hansen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for James!
Hansen wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.
Hansen prevents James from getting the reversal.
Hansen breaks from James's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hansen controlling the position easily from mount.
Hansen tries to control but James wriggling away.
Hansen sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Hansen is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Hansen shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.

James takes the fight into the clinch.

Hansen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hansen throws a head kick that misses

and James counters with a shoot takedown. Hansen fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hansen scrambles and gets back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hansen misses with a body shot.
Berendt Hansen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hansen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Hansen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hansen stuffs the takedown attempt from James. James gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Berendt Hansen will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Hansen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hansen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hansen tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Hansen counters with a shoot takedown. James fights it but they end up in guard.

James looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hansen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
James looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hansen is one step ahead there.
James is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hansen is controlling him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hansen trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
James thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

James wants to stand but Hansen is controlling the position.

James scrambles and gets back to his feet.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hansen controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

James tries to stand but Hansen is controlling from the bottom.

Hansen has an active guard here but James has managed to pass into half guard.
Hansen is trying to get back to full guard.
James thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hansen desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Hansen rushes James and presses him up against the cage.
James tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hansen fails to pull guard.

Hansen manages to break the clinch.
Hansen tries to clinch but James moves away
and James counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hansen is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Hansen throws a front kick aimed at James's knee but James avoids it well.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hansen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

James tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Hansen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
James closes the distance looking to clinch
and Hansen counters with a series of strikes. James will be more careful next time no doubt.
Hansen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hansen with a poor takedown

and James counters by moving into the clinch.
James misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hansen.

Hansen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James tries to clinch but Hansen moves away
and James takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Hansen moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hansen fails with the takedown.
James looks to clinch

and Hansen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hansen.
Renato James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James lands a nice knee to the body.
Hansen tries to pull guard but James holds him up against the cage and eventually Hansen drops back down to his feet.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, James just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hansen's brow.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Renato James.
I think Hansen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
