PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Lyger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Meldrick Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyger comes to the cage accompanied by Holy Diver. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Lyger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Meldrick Tyson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lyger moves out of range of the body kick.
Tyson connects with a leg kick. Lyger looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Lyger checks a leg kick.
Tyson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Lyger.
Tyson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Lyger shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tyson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Sloppy strikes there by Lyger.
Lyger is looking to take a break and control but Tyson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lyger works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Lyger thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tyson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lyger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lyger lands a big shot there that rocks Tyson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lyger fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Lyger tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Tyson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Lyger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tyson thumps Lyger with a low kick.

James Lyger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tyson is looking to clinch.
Tyson feints and then cracks Lyger's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Lyger down.
Tyson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Lyger's calf.
Lyger's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Tyson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Lyger scrambles back to his feet.
Tyson tries to clinch up.
Lyger takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Tyson tries to clinch but Lyger moves out of range.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch but Lyger swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tyson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tyson cracks the inside of Lyger's front leg.
Tyson misses the shot to the body.
Nice defenses there by Tyson.
Tyson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tyson.
Tyson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Lyger scores with a takedown into Tyson's guard.

Tyson trying to keep a closed guard but Lyger is proving a slippery customer.

Lyger postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lyger is pushing down on Tyson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tyson is fighting to maintain full guard but Lyger has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lyger scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lyger is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tyson defends it well.

Lyger is nestled in close to Tyson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Lyger throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Lyger is controlling the pace.
Tyson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Lyger landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Lyger thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tyson's head.
Lyger lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Lyger is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Lyger is pressing down on Tyson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tyson is holding on for now.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tyson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Lyger scores with a couple of nice shots.

Tyson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Tyson stuffs the takedown attempt from Lyger. Lyger gets slowly back to his feet.

No luck for Lyger with that takedown attempt.
Meldrick Tyson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tyson moves in looking to clinch but Lyger pushes him off.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lyger paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lyger is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Lyger shoots in for a double leg but Tyson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Lyger. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lyger takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Tyson doesn't manage to clinch there - Lyger circles away.
Lyger shoots in and drives through. Tyson sprawls well.
Tyson moves in looking to clinch but Lyger pushes him off.

Tyson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Tyson tries to bum rush Lyger with a series of wild strikes but Lyger uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tyson thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Lyger if he has to take too many more of those.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No joy there for Tyson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tyson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lyger.
Lyger takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Tyson explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Lyger shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tyson pinned against the cage. Tyson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tyson tries to clinch up.

Tyson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tyson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like James Lyger has been cut.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lyger.
Tyson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Tyson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lyger manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tyson bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tyson tries to clinch there but Lyger circles away.
Tyson cracks the inside of Lyger's front leg.
Tyson tries to bum rush Lyger with a series of wild strikes but Lyger uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tyson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tyson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Tyson lands a big head kick that sends Lyger tumbling to the mat! Tyson takes a step backwards and waves Lyger back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Lyger is rocked!
Tyson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A head kick by Tyson - that's a beauty! Lyger is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Tyson can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Meldrick Tyson!
