PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chen Zen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zen has chosen Michael Jackson - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough as his entrance music. Chen Zen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chen Zen!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zen lands a head kick. Martin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Jonathan Martin has been cut.
Martin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Zen takes the fight into the clinch.
Zen is trying to push Martin away but Martin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Martin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Zen gets caught flat footed, as Martin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Martin controlling from the top position.
Martin stops Zen from standing up.
Zen keeping full guard, as Martin tries to pass.
Zen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Martin is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Martin trying to control the position from guard on top but Zen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jonathan Martin.
Zen throws a series of punches but Martin moves out of range.
Martin avoids the head kick by Zen.
Zen wants to clinch up but Martin keeps it at a distance.
Zen throws a head kick that misses.
Zen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Martin keeps the fight on the outside.
Zen moves in looking to clinch but Martin pushes him off.
Zen plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Martin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zen tries to avoid it but Martin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zen to the ground. Zen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Zen lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zen tries to clinch but Martin moves out of range.
Zen tries to clinch up.
Martin swats away the attempt to clinch by Zen.

Martin takes the fight into the clinch.

Martin has clasped his hands together around Zen's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Martin cracks Zen with a big right hand but Zen just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Martin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Zen being controlled for a moment.
Martin lands a nice forearm strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zen is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Zen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Martin has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Martin has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Zen!
Martin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zen looks gassed!
Martin has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Zen's face.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Zen really wants to buck Martin off and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Martin landing strikes, looking to finish!
Zen in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Martin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Martin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Zen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zen wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Martin scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Zen?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Martin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zen sprawls well. Zen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Martin gets slowly back to his feet.
Chen Zen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zen tries for a takedown but Martin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Martin swats away the attempt to clinch by Zen.

Zen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Martin successfully pulls guard.
Martin controls Zen momentarily but Zen frees himself.
Martin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Martin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zen trying desperately to get to his feet.

Martin working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Zen looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Martin! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jonathan Martin!
