Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aivan Kamala! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wanderlei Johnson! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kamala scores with a takedown into Johnson's guard. Johnson keeping moving, preventing Kamala from controlling successfully. Kamala works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kamala looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kamala is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Kamala prevents Johnson from improving his position. Kamala keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kamala tries to pass to full mount but Johnson defends it. Kamala is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Johnson defends it well. Johnson tries to get to full guard but Kamala has control of the leg. Kamala is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kamala to get the leverage. Kamala is looking to advance position but Johnson won't allow it. Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Johnson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Kamala prevents Johnson from improving his position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kamala counters with a two punch combo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kamala shoots in and bounces Johnson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Johnson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Kamala is defending well. Johnson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Kamala has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Johnson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
