PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Hosking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Battery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hosking comes to the cage accompanied by War Machine. Maximus Battery is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vincent Hosking!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Maximus Battery!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Battery shoots in but no luck this time.

Hosking looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Battery manages to get to full guard.

Battery had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hosking is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Battery Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hosking's back instead.
Hosking has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Battery.
Battery keeps control of the position easily here as Hosking tries to buck him off.

Battery has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hosking has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Battery is looking for the choke from the back position but Hosking is controlling his hands well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hosking trying to control the hands but Battery won't let him.

Battery is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Hosking is defending well though. Battery let's go of the attempt for now.
Battery looks gassed!
Hosking tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Hosking wants to hold on but Battery pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Battery is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hosking is surviving well by controlling Battery's body position as best he can.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Battery fails to take his opponent's back.
Battery sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Hosking is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hosking tries to hold on but Battery pushes him away.
Battery looking to control but Hosking is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Battery jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hosking is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hosking and Battery has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Hosking wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hosking is trying to control Battery's posture but Battery avoids it.
Hosking throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Battery tries to advance to mount but can't.
Hosking manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Hosking is defending against the submission attempts here by Battery.
Hosking is looking to improve his position.

Battery is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hosking is just riding it out for now. Battery eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Battery passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hosking!
Battery scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Battery throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hosking has given up his back.
Hosking tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Maximus Battery will probably get the nod.
That's time! Hosking's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Battery fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hosking clinches with his opponent.

Hosking breaks the clinch.
Battery misses with a takedown

and Hosking moves into the clinch.

Hosking decides to pull guard.
Battery won't allow Hosking to get back to his feet.
Hosking keeping moving, preventing Battery from controlling successfully.
Battery might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hosking kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hosking working for a triangle but Battery defends it easily.

Battery postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hosking is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Battery, into his guard.
Battery is breathing heavily.

Battery throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Battery isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hosking stacks Battery on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hosking!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Battery is trying to get back to half guard.
Hosking is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hosking landing strikes.
Hosking tries to advance to mount but Battery denies him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

and Hosking counters by clinching up.
Battery is working for takedown but Hosking is calmly controlling the position for now.
Vincent Hosking has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maximus Battery.
Hosking blocks an elbow strike from Battery.
Battery with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Hosking escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Battery shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hosking counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Battery shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Battery working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hosking keeping moving, preventing Battery from controlling successfully.
Battery stands up over Hosking, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Battery drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Battery jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Battery wants to control from the top but Hosking keeps moving.

Battery drops back looking for a leg! Hosking is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hosking manages to kick Battery off! Battery jumps back into Hosking's guard.

Battery postures up.
Hosking looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A chopping leg kick lands by Hosking.
Battery shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hosking makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Hosking moves into the clinch.

Hosking has Battery pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hosking pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Battery tumbling to the mat - Hosking dives into Battery's guard.

Battery is looking for a triangle here but Hosking uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Hosking decides to stand up, so the ref orders Battery to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vincent Hosking dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Battery is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hosking preventing the sweep.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Battery is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hosking tries to get to full guard but Battery has control of the leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Battery drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hosking manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Battery has Hosking in his guard.
Battery looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hosking puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Battery on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Battery is looking to get back to full guard here but Hosking has managed to pass to side control instead.
Hosking with shots to the head and body - Battery looks very uncomfortable down there.
Battery is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hosking looking to finish Battery with some ground and pound. This is bad for Battery!

Battery is working to get back to half guard.
Hosking cracks Battery with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hosking takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Battery keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hosking scoring with strikes but Battery is staying in there.
Battery is in a horrible position here. Hosking smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Vincent Hosking overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Battery tries to hold on but Hosking pushes him away.
Battery can't escape the position.
Battery takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Battery keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vincent Hosking showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hosking has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
