0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cod Mckenzie! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paragacu drives through with a takedown into guard. Mckenzie controls Paragacu momentarily but Paragacu frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paragacu drops back looking for a leg! Mckenzie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mckenzie manages to kick Paragacu off! Paragacu jumps back into Mckenzie's guard. Paragacu trying to control but Mckenzie is working from the bottom. Paragacu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Paragacu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paragacu tries to free his leg and advance position but Mckenzie is retaining full guard. Paragacu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Mckenzie can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mckenzie is looking for a sweep. Paragacu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mckenzie has escaped the position, nice work there. Mckenzie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paragacu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Paragacu advances nicely into full mount. Paragacu avoids the attempt from Mckenzie to control. Mckenzie really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Paragacu looking to control but Mckenzie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Mckenzie tries to hold on but Paragacu postures up. Paragacu trying to control but Mckenzie is having none of it. This has been an exciting period of action! Paragacu working for a guillotine from mount but Mckenzie is in no mood to give up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paragacu wants to control the pace but Mckenzie is squirming around nicely. Paragacu avoids the attempt from Mckenzie to control. Paragacu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Mckenzie is desperately trying to improve his position but Paragacu has a good base and remains in mount. Mckenzie looks gassed! Paragacu moves to take his opponent's back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Paragacu is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Mckenzie has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Paragacu has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Mckenzie taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Paragacu doesn't care though - he's delighted!
