PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Carr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles has chosen Sweet Child O' Mine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jay Carr could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ray Charles's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Charles!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr misses with a takedown
and Charles counters with a stiff right hand.

Carr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Charles, pushing him back against the cage.
Charles gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Jay Carr has been cut.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Charles just misses with a elbow thrown towards Carr's brow.

Carr successfully pulls guard.
Carr is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carr looking to control.

Carr looking for a guillotine here but Charles defends easily.
Carr has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Charles trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Charles throws a big elbow that misses.
Charles stopping the sweep attempt from Carr.

Charles got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Charles has managed to get both his arms back between Carr's legs - danger averted.

Charles loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Carr is trying to keep Charles in close.
Charles must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carr closes the distance and clinches up with Charles, looking for a takedown. Carr pushes Charles against the cage but Charles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Carr fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Charles checks it well.

Carr fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Charles drives through and clinches with Carr against the cage.
Charles with a knee to the head.
Charles with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Carr avoids a wild elbow strike from Charles.

Charles escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Charles wants to clinch but Carr slips to the side

and Carr counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carr is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Charles sees it coming and defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jay Carr will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Charles feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Carr's calf.
Carr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Charles's waist but Charles gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carr off to one side.
Charles tries to clinch but Carr moves out of range.
Charles blocks the body kick.

Charles fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Carr, pushing him back against the cage.
Charles lands an elbow inside.
Carr trying to control the position but instead, Charles has worked for underhooks and has pushed Carr into the cage.
Carr is trying to pull guard but Charles turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Carr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Charles is fending him off so far but Carr persists. Nope, Charles circles away and we're back to standing.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch but Carr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Charles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Charles wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Charles as Carr shoots in.
Charles wants to clinch up but Carr keeps it at a distance.

Carr pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Charles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carr circles away quickly and effectively.

Ray Charles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jay Carr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Charles sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carr somewhat.

Charles tries to clinch but Carr is having none of it.
Charles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carr circles away quickly and effectively.
Charles will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Carr shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Carr is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Carr shoots in and drives through. Charles sprawls well.

Charles tries to clinch up but Carr circles away and keeps his distance.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Charles.
Charles avoids the head kick by Carr.

and Charles counters by moving into the clinch.

Carr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Charles fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Ray Charles seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jay Carr.
I think Carr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
