Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Average Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Sagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Average Joe has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Average Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Sagan! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sagan moves into the clinch. Joe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Joe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sagan.
Joe misses with a body kick. Joe wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Sagan looks gassed! Joe shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sagan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Joe! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Sagan avoids the attempt from Joe to control. Joe squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round. Joe holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Sagan tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Joe is looking to get to half guard. Joe slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Sagan working over Joe with some ground and pound. Joe looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sagan lands a nice short elbow. The fighters are battling for position here. Joe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sagan can do anything to dispel that myth. Joe raining down hammerfists from mount. Joe landing shots from mount. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Joe working Sagan over with strikes here. Joe landing punches. Joe fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Joe looking to secure an arm triangle but Sagan defends it well. Joe lands a big shot there that rocks Sagan but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Joe cracks Sagan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Joe is landing with some decent strikes but Sagan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Joe misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Joe landing strikes, looking to finish! The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Sagan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Joe pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Sagan is wriggling around trying to escape.

Joe looking to secure an arm triangle but Sagan defends it well. Joe lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Joe lands a nice shot to the head. Joe scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Sagan?
Joe controlling from the full mount. Joe scoring with strikes but Sagan is staying in there. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sagan wants to control but Joe is having none of it. Joe raining down shots from the mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Average Joe dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Joe tries to close the distance and clinch but Sagan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Joe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Joe thows a huge punch but Sagan dodges it nicely.
Joe winds up and cracks Sagan with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Joe is keen to just control but Sagan is a slippery customer. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Joe connects with a nice short shot to Sagan's temple. Ground and pound from Joe. Joe thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Sagan is not content to let Joe control the position.

Joe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Joe working Sagan over with strikes. Average Joe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Joe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sagan defending well though. Joe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Joe is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Sagan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots. Sagan is defending against the submission attempts here by Joe.
Joe is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe wants to control the pace but Sagan is squirming around nicely. Sagan is in a horrible position here. Joe smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Joe shoots in for a takedown but Sagan shows good takedown defense. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Joe. Sagan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Sagan in side control, throwing shots but Joe defends. Sagan is looking to take a break and control but Joe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sagan wants to take a breather but Joe manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Sagan. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Joe keeping full guard, as Sagan tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Joe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sagan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Joe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Sagan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Joe works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Sagan wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. Sagan stops Joe from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe pushes Sagan off and gets back to his feet.
Sagan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Joe but Joe pushes him off and we're back to square one. Joe scores with a hook. Joe has Sagan up against the ropes in a clinch.
Joe using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Sagan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Average Joe. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sagan has hold of one of Joe's legs. Joe is fighting the takedown attempt but Sagan gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Joe keeping moving, preventing Sagan from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sagan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sagan drops back looking for a leg! Joe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Joe manages to kick Sagan off! Sagan jumps back into Joe's guard. Joe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sagan can do to turn this around? Joe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sagan controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Sagan passes Joe's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Joe tries to kick Sagan off but Sagan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Sagan looks to land a strike but Joe avoids it nicely and regains full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sagan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sagan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Sagan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joe keeps working.
And that's the end of the fight! Josh Sagan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Joe has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
