Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose RIzal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wesley Hobbs! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by RIzal or perhaps it was just good defense by Hobbs which made him look bad. Nice sprawl there from Hobbs as RIzal shoots in. RIzal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hobbs as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose RIzal. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hobbs swats away the attempt to clinch by RIzal. Hobbs closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. RIzal manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Hobbs tries to pass to full mount but RIzal defends it. Hobbs is thwarting RIzal's attempts to control the position. Hobbs wants to take a breather but RIzal is having none of it. Hobbs seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hobbs is thwarting RIzal's attempts to control the position.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Wesley Hobbs wasn't active enough on the ground. Hobbs closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hobbs lands in his opponent's guard. Hobbs is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. RIzal looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hobbs avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hobbs trying to control but RIzal is working from the bottom. RIzal has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hobbs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. RIzal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hobbs gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. RIzal is breathing heavily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hobbs content to stall in guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hobbs trying to control the position from guard on top but RIzal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. RIzal is trying to control the position but Hobbs postures up. Hobbs trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hobbs decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on RIzal, up you get! Hobbs scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. RIzal sneaks back into half guard. Hobbs is trying to control. RIzal wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hobbs tries to stand but his hand is stuck under RIzal. RIzal moves into full guard.
Hobbs wants to control from the top but RIzal keeps moving. RIzal is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hobbs is aware though and is defending well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hobbs tries to stand but RIzal is controlling from the bottom. RIzal is looking to sinch up a triangle. Hobbs throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to RIzal's body to avoid the submission. RIzal has instead reached around Hobbs's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! RIzal arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jose RIzal!
