PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sergey Lutiy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Reeves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sergey Lutiy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Reeves!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reeves instigates a clinch.
Lutiy keeps control of Reeves as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Reeves pulls Lutiy into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lutiy trying to control but Reeves is working from the bottom.
Lutiy preventing the sweep.
Lutiy is looking to stand up but Reeves won't let him.
Lutiy wants to control from the top but Reeves keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sergey Lutiy wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Reeves shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Lutiy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reeves pulls his head out easily.
Lutiy won't allow Reeves to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lutiy trying to hold on to Reeves's head to control him but Reeves postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reeves moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Lutiy.
Lutiy is looking to regain half guard here but Reeves keeps moving and retains side control.
Reeves is looking to take a break and control but Lutiy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Reeves has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Reeves throws a nice looking combination but Lutiy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Lutiy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Reeves to the mat! Reeves manages to get full guard.
Lutiy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lutiy is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lutiy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reeves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lutiy has managed to get both his arms back between Reeves's legs - danger averted.

Lutiy stands up from Reeves's guard - Lutiy perhaps looking for a knockout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Reeves moves into the clinch.

Lutiy has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Reeves uses from the top position.
Reeves controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Reeves gets to his feet. Lutiy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Reeves tries a head kick but it misses.

Reeves gets a clinch.

Reeves has hold of one of Lutiy's legs. Lutiy is fighting the takedown attempt but Reeves gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lutiy throws his legs up looking for a submission but Reeves uses it to pass to side control.
Reeves working the ground and pound from side control.
Reeves controls the position.
Lutiy takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Lutiy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lutiy misses with a strike from the bottom.
Reeves controls the position from side control.
Lutiy is looking to reverse the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reeves remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Reeves decides to stand back up.

Reeves shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lutiy is trying to defend but Reeves finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Reeves sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Reeves dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Lutiy feints and as Reeves raises his hands in defense, Lutiy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lutiy trying to control the position from guard on top but Reeves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reeves looking to control.
Reeves pulls Lutiy in close to his closed guard and prevents Lutiy from doing any damage or advancing position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reeves looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Reeves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reeves cracks Lutiy with a big right hand but Lutiy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reeves slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Lutiy.
Lutiy flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Lutiy tries to hold on but Reeves postures up.
Lutiy really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Reeves lands with some strikes.
Reeves with good strikes from the mount here!
Reeves connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
James Reeves has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reeves tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reeves landing punches.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reeves controlling from mount.
Lutiy is looking to improve his position but Reeves isn't that keen on the idea.
Reeves controlling the pace for now.
Lutiy is desperately trying to improve his position but Reeves has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reeves is landing with some decent strikes but Lutiy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Lutiy is trying desperately to improve position.
Reeves controlling the pace for now.
Let's hope that Reeves has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Lutiy is just holding on here. Reeves manages to take his back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Reeves is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lutiy has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Lutiy rolls, trying to escape but Reeves keeps control of the position.
I would not like to be Lutiy right now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Reeves is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Lutiy with him. Lutiy is trying to defend but Reeves has an arm under the chin now! Lutiy grimaces and is forced to tap out!
