Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fresh Hamz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rory Markman! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Hamz. No joy for Markman on that attempt. Hamz wants to clinch but Markman slips to the side and Markman makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Markman is defended easily by Hamz. Hamz moves in looking to clinch but Markman pushes him off. Markman shoots in but Hamz avoids the takedown attempt easily. Fresh Hamz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rory Markman. Markman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hamz tries to avoid it but Markman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hamz to the ground. Hamz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Markman tries for a takedown but Hamz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A swing and a miss from Markman. Markman takes a swing at Hamz's ribcage but misses. Hamz closes the distance but Markman moves to the side and Markman counters with a shoot takedown. Hamz fights it but they end up in guard. Markman looking to pass the guard. Markman trying to control the position from guard on top but Hamz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markman looking to sit in guard and control but Hamz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Markman looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Markman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Markman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Markman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hamz defends it easily. Hamz preventing the sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hamz trying to stand up but can't free himself from Markman's guard. Markman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hamz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Markman wants to sweep but no luck. Markman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Markman trying to keep a closed guard but Hamz is proving a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rory Markman was stalling too much, according to the referee. Hamz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Markman. Hamz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Markman swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hamz leaves Markman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Hamz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Markman. Markman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hamz's waist but Hamz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Markman off to one side. Markman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hamz but Hamz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Markman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hamz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Markman somewhat. Hamz wants to clinch up but Markman keeps it at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hamz tries to clinch there but Markman circles away.
Hamz tries to close the distance and clinch but Markman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Markman connects with a body shot. Fresh Hamz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hamz is looking to clinch. Hamz has taken the fight to the clinch.

Markman blocks a body shot from Hamz. Hamz tries to throw a body punch but Markman avoids it by throwing Hamz back against the cage. Hamz misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Rory Markman dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Nice sprawl there from Hamz as Markman shoots in. Markman circles away from the clinch attempt and Markman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Markman throws an elbow that misses. Hamz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Markman's guard. Nice move by Hamz! Markman controlling the position. Markman controls Hamz momentarily but Hamz frees himself. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Markman is on top in guard.
Markman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Markman wants to control from the top but Hamz keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hamz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Markman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Markman makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Markman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Markman tries to free his leg and advance position but Hamz is retaining full guard. Markman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Markman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Markman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Markman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hamz is keeping the position for now. Markman working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Markman throws a big elbow that misses. Markman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Markman controls the position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hamz is not content to let Markman control the position.

Markman scores with a couple of short elbows. Markman throws a strike aimed at the side of Hamz's head but Hamz avoids it well. Markman taking a breather here. Rory Markman has got the better of the ground game so far. An elbow from Markman crashes against the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hamz is trying to control Markman's posture but Markman avoids it. Markman creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hamz sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Markman tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Hamz wants to control but Markman postures up. Markman fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hamz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hamz tries to get out of the position. Markman trying to control the position but Hamz is working away. Markman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Hamz is avoiding damage well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Markman working the head with strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Markman is looking to take a break and control but Hamz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Markman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Markman throws a big right hand that misses. Hamz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Markman on the ground. Markman trying to control the position from guard on top but Hamz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Markman is in close to Hamz's body, working some short punches and elbows. Markman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hamz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Markman, into his guard. Hamz trying to control the position from guard on top but Markman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
