Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Chris Rainey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jorge Garcia and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rainey tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! Jones looks to land a left hand but Rainey moved out of range nicely. Jones has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Jones tries to keep at a distance but Rainey has taken the fight into the clinch. Jones keeps control of Rainey as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Rainey tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage. Rainey is trying to break the clinch but Jones has him pressed against the cage. Rainey has had enough of the clinch but Jones keeps him there for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rainey is trying to push Jones away but Jones has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Jones keeps control of Rainey as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Rainey wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.

Jones has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rainey after a bit of a struggle. Rainey looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones cracks Rainey with a nice body shot. Rainey is looking to break free of the clinch but Jones has double underhooks. Rainey is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him. Jones misses with a body punch.

Jones throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Jones throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rainey counters with a series of strikes. Jones will be more careful next time no doubt. Rainey's corner calls for a 1-2. Rainey obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Rainey takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Jones lands a leg kick that knocks Rainey off balance momentarily. Rainey moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rainey sees it coming and avoids it easily. A swing and a miss from Jones.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rainey darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage. Jones with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Jones has Rainey pressed against the cage, preventing Rainey from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Rainey breaks the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jab by Rainey. Rainey goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Rainey fails with an attempt to clinch.

Chris Rainey dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Jones waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rainey. Rainey misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Rainey shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jones napping and manages to drive through into side control! Jones is looking to reverse the position. Rainey decides to take the fight back to the feet. Jones tries for a takedown but Rainey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Jones misses with a hook. Rainey ducked under it nicely. Chris Rainey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rainey rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rainey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rainey lands a jab-cross combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. No luck with that takedown attempt from Rainey. Rainey lands with a nice combination. Jones backs away looking to recover. Jones dives in and grabs Rainey's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rainey pushes down on Jones's head and hops out. Rainey closes the distance and clinches. Jones struggles to land a body shot inside as Rainey controls his hands.

Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rainey is keeping the position for now. Jones drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rainey manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jones has Rainey in his guard.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rainey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rainey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Jones looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rainey puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rainey stands up from half guard. Rainey has a takedown stuffed. Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Rainey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Chris Rainey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones. Nice cross by Rainey. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Jones checks a leg kick. Rainey has managed to clinch.
Rainey tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rainey tries to circle away but Jones has him pinned against the cage. Rainey is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing. Jones is trying to break the clinch but Rainey has him pressed against the cage. Rainey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rainey. Rainey swinging wildly here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jones feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Rainey's calf. Jones throws a leg kick but Rainey sees it coming and checks it nicely. Jones throws a quick inside leg kick. Jones swings widly with a right hand
and Rainey counters with a two punch combo. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Rainey throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease. Danga de danga de dang - Rainey scores with a four punch combination! A nice leg kick lands there from Jones. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Rainey!

That's one minute gone in the round. A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch. Jones tries to break free but Rainey pushes him back against the cage. Jones prevents Rainey from breaking the clinch. Rainey tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
Jones wants a takedown.
Jon Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rainey wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage. Jones throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rainey blocks it with crossed arms. Rainey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rainey stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken. Jones lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Rainey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away. Rainey uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Jones. Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Crunch! Jones slams his shin into Rainey's torso. Jones lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rainey's sensitive parts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Jones dives in and grabs Rainey's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rainey pushes down on Jones's head and hops out. Chris Rainey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones. A slapping leg kick lands for Jones.
Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Rainey defending well as Jones loads up on a big left hand. Jones gets tackled into the cage by Rainey. Rainey maintains the clinch. Rainey is trying to force a seperation but Jones has the dominant position. Rainey can't break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rainey working hard to break the clinch. Jones tries to stall but Rainey uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Jon Jones. Well Rainey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
