PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Currie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Jax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Currie comes to the cage accompanied by Helmet - Just Another Victim. Jax comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Immortal Technique - The Rebel kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Currie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Jax!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Currie misses.
Currie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Currie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jax's half guard.
Jax wants to improve his position but Currie is controlling well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Currie connects with a nice short shot to Jax's temple.

Currie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jax is looking to control Currie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jax avoid being mounted?

Currie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Currie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jax with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jax keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Currie throws a strike but Jax avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Currie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jax is adopting a defensive guard.
Jax looking to hit a scissor sweep but Currie is one step ahead there.

Currie distracts Jax with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jax wants to sweep but no luck.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Currie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Currie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jax's head.
Currie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jax works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jax is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Currie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Currie with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jax manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Currie manages to get himself to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jax wants to pass the guard but Currie is keeping the position.
Currie keeping moving, preventing Jax from controlling successfully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jax stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Currie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Currie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Currie jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Currie thows a body shot but no joy.
David Currie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jax stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Some bone on bone action there as Currie checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Currie looks for a takedown but Jax sprawls well.
Jax connects with a body shot that sends Currie's belly button to the back.
Jax takes one to the side of the head.
Jax looks to land a combination. Currie sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jax with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Currie to score with a decent uppercut.

Jax throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Jax is looking to land body kicks.
Currie slips under a jab from Jax.
Currie keeps Jax at a distance using the push kick.
Currie fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Currie lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jax circles away quickly and effectively.

Currie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jax uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Currie.
Currie moves forwards but Jax connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Jax connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Currie's hands.
Currie takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Currie throws a leg kick which misses Jax's front leg but catches the back leg as Jax tries to avoid it.
Jax tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Currie is able to avoid easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Currie rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jax moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Currie tests Jax's chin there with a solid looking shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Tony Jax will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Jax feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Curries jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Jax throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Currie.
Currie misses with a looping left.
Currie checks the leg kick.
Currie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Currie's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Jax connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Currie scrambles back to his feet.
Jax pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Currie back to the cage. Jax follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Currie throws a lazy right hand but Jax sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Jax lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Horrible takedown by Currie or perhaps it was just good defense by Jax which made him look bad.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I would just about give that final round to Tony Jax.
