PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lion Takanori (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enrique Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Takanori comes into the arena with Scary blaring out of the sound system. Mendez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Juno Reactor - Pistolero. Lion Takanori is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lion Takanori!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Enrique Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Mendez.
Mendez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mendez misses with a straight right.
Takanori fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Takanori slips a jab and a cross from Mendez.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Takanori but Takanori pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Takanori lands a nice looking body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Mendez. Those never looked like landing.
Takanori gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Mendez.
Mendez throws an overhand right that lands on Takanori's shoulder, as Takanori tries to avoid the shot.
Takanori throws a jab but it's blocked by Mendez.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mendez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mendez showed some decent athleticism there.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Takanori has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendez is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takanori pushes Mendez off looking to stand but Mendez dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takanori manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Takanori lands with an uppercut that bounces Mendez off the cage and back into range.
Takanori throws a right and a left that Mendez avoids nicely.
Takanori just misses with a punch to the body.
A big left from Takanori misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez avoids the body shot from Takanori.
Takanori dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Takanori clinches.
Nice body punch from Takanori - that landed with a thud.
A short left from Takanori.
Mendez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Takanori lands a right hand.
Takanori lands a body shot in the clinch.
Takanori lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Takanori's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Enrique Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Mendez throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Takanori counters with a right hand to the body.
Mendez looks gassed!
Takanori misses with a few strikes there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendez misses with the combination.
Mendez misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Takanori to counter with a crisp jab.
Good standup being displayed there by Mendez as he connects with a hook.

Mendez closes the distance and clinches.
Takanori pushes Mendez back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mendez prevents a body shot from Takanori.
Takanori is struggling to control the position.

Takanori manages to break the clinch.
Mendez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Takanori sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Mendez moves into the clinch.
Takanori tries a body shot but Mendez blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Takanori breaks the clinch.
No joy there for Mendez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendez dives in and grabs Takanori's left leg, looking for a takedown. Takanori pushes down on Mendez's head and hops out.
Mendez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Takanori counters with a straight right hand.

Mendez gets tackled into the cage by Takanori. Takanori maintains the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Takanori has Mendez pressed against the cage, preventing Mendez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Takanori pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mendez closes the distance and pushes Takanori back into the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez working hard to break the clinch.
Takanori misses with the head strike.
Takanori lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Takanori.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lion Takanori dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Mendez throws a series of punches but Takanori avoids them all with ease.
Takanori throws a series of punches but Mendez moves out of range.
Mendez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Takanori connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mendez scrambles back to his feet.


Mendez is rocked!
Mendez walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mendez is still on wobbly legs! Can Takanori finish him?
Mendez fails to land with a series of punches.
Mendez leaves his chin hanging out and Takanori seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Mendez crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Lion Takanori!
Lion Takanori spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
