Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Damien Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wells Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dengel has chosen Pon de Floor as his entrance music. The key to victory for Damien Maia has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Damien Maia!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wells Dengel!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dengel throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.
Dengel misses with a wild body shot.
Maia throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Dengel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Maia defending against the ground and pound.
Maia pushes Dengel away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Dengel gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Maia dodges the ground and pound from Dengel.
Dengel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maia keeps working.

Maia tries to escape but Dengel is in control.
Dengel landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Dengel tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Maia is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Dengel is controlling him well.

Dengel throws a strike aimed at the side of Maia's head but Maia avoids it well.

Maia is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Dengel in side control, throwing shots but Maia defends.

Maia is trying to buck Dengel off.

Dengel throwing strikes but Maia manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Maia tries to stand but Dengel is controlling his head.
Dengel is looking for a sweep.
Maia tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Dengel is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Maia wants to stand up but Dengel is controlling the position.

Dengel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Maia trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Dengel looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Maia seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Dengel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maia pulls his head out easily.
Maia tries to stand and escape but Dengel is controlling the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wells Dengel will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Maia just misses with a punch to the body.
Damien Maia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dengel shoots in looking for a takedown but Maia manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dengel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dengel moves out of range of the body kick.
Maia fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Maia takes a swing at Dengel's ribcage but misses.
Dengel shoots in for a takedown but Maia shows good takedown defense.

Dengel closes the distance and pushes Maia back into the ropes.
Dengel pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes.
Maia looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Dengel lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Dengel pulls guard successfully.

Dengel has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Maia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dengel.

Maia decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dengel to his feet.
Dengel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dengel dives in and grabs Maia's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maia pushes down on Dengel's head and hops out.
Damien Maia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wells Dengel.
Nice uppercut there from Maia.
Damien Maia is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Maia lands with an uppercut that bounces Dengel off the ropes and back into range.
Maia wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Dengel is breathing heavily.
Maia getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Dengel looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


Dengel is rocked!
Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Maia moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Dengel! Maia continues to tee off on Dengel, landing with a left and a right! Maia connects with a right hand that leaves Dengel sleeping against the ropes! What a finish by Maia!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Damien Maia!
Damien Maia retains his featherweight title!
