Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joao Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago comes to the cage accompanied by Asesinos - Los Crudos. Alves has chosen Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - Andr� Rieu's version as his entrance music. Antonio Santiago could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Joao Alves's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Alves!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves throws a sloppy head kick and Santiago moves out of range easily.
Santiago throws an overhand right that lands on Alves's shoulder, as Alves tries to avoid the shot.
Santiago throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alves.
Alves misses with a wild body shot.
Santiago shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Alves eats them both and turns towards Santiago to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Joao Alves has been cut.
Alves ducks under a wild hook from Santiago.
Santiago scores with a hook to the body. Alves takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Santiago lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Alves enables Santiago to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Alves manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Alves working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Santiago.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Santiago's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Santiago trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.

Santiago postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Alves works Santiago's body with a nice hook.
Alves plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Santiago takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Santiago throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alves sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Santiago throws a series of punches but Alves avoids them all with ease.
Alves misses with a head kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Santiago decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Alves trying to control but Santiago postures up.

Santiago is trying to work for a kimura but Alves is defending well.

Alves actively working from the bottom here.

Santiago working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Santiago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alves trying to control but Santiago postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Santiago is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Alves is not content to let Santiago control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santiago is really struggling to control Alves but he's trying to hold on to the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Santiago throwing shots but Alves is blocking nicely.
Alves has hold of Santiago's hands but Santiago slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Alves.
Santiago blocks a jab.
Santiago lands with a hook. Alves tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Santiago ducks under a wild hook from Alves.
Joao Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Santiago looking to score a takedown here. Alves is defending well but Santiago drives through and ends up in Alves's guard.
Santiago trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
Santiago slips nicely into half guard.
Alves throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Santiago scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Santiago lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alves regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Santiago.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Santiago doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Santiago manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Santiago wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.

Alves has his foot on Santiago's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Santiago works his way back into a safe position though.
Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santiago connects with a couple of short punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Santiago pushes down on Alves's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Alves trying to get back to full guard but Santiago takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Santiago scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Alves?


Alves is rocked!
Santiago looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Alves covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antonio Santiago!
A very excited looking Antonio Santiago rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
