PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neho Kipei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tokugawa San (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tokugawa San will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Neho Kipei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tokugawa San!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
San lands a right hook to the body.
Kipei tries for a takedown but San sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kipei throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around San's waist but San gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kipei off to one side.
Nice shot by San.
San lands a jab to the head.
Kipei moves in looking to clinch but San pushes him off.
San throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kipei.
San tests Kipei's chin there with a solid looking shot.
San closes the distance and lands a one-two.
San stuffs the takedown attempt from Kipei. Kipei gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Neho Kipei. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kipei shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts San as he jumps to the side.
San is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
San lands a glancing blow to the side of Kipei's head.
Kipei blocks the body kick.
Kipei throws a right hand that San ducks under and follows up with a left that San also avoids with ease.
San throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
San scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kipei doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
San tries to bum rush Kipei with a series of wild strikes but Kipei uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
San connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

San moves into range and connects with a jab.
San darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

San uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kipei.
San scores with a jab.
San lands with a cross.
Kipei has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kipei there as he acknowledges the shot.
San is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Kipei had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

San cracks Kipei with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Kipei shoots in looking for a takedown but San manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kipei's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kipei closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming San to the mat! San manages to get full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kipei stays in close to San's body and controls the position.
Kipei is breathing heavily.
Kipei throwing strikes from guard but San blocks nicely.
San controls Kipei momentarily but Kipei frees himself.
Kipei might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

This has been an exciting period of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kipei accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kipei won't allow San to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if San can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kipei stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. San swivels though and keeps the full guard.
San keeping moving, preventing Kipei from controlling successfully.
San utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kipei wants to pass the guard but San is keeping the position.
San is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Kipei or perhaps it was just good defense by San which made him look bad.

San connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kipei ducks right into an uppercut from San.
Kipei walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
San lands with a cross.

Kipei changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. San looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kipei wants to control but San is keeping him busy.
San regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kipei's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

San is trying to stand up here but Kipei is controlling him well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

San really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kipei. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kipei can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as San is looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
San can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Neho Kipei will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kipei shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with San but San pushes him off and we're back to square one.
San connects with a right hand. Kipei shakes it off.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kipei.
San digs a good hook to Kipei's body.
Donk. San catches Kipei right on the button with a cross.
Kipei has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Nice jab there from San.
San is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
San jabs Kipei right on the nose. Kipei blinks but takes it well.

Kipei has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
San wants to control but Kipei is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kipei looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kipei with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling San to score with a decent uppercut.
Kipei changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. San tries to avoid it but Kipei manages to keep hold of a leg and drag San to the ground. San escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Neho Kipei is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
San jabs Kipei right on the nose. Kipei blinks but takes it well.

Tokugawa San seems to be getting the better of the standup.

San has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

San smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Kipei takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kipei tries to score a power double leg takedown but San sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kipei somewhat.
San connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kipei's hands.

San bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kipei's head.
San lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by San.
San keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kipei moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kipei throws a jab when San was well out of range.
San paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Kipei walks into a stiff left hand from San.
Nice uppercut there from San.
San cracks Kipei with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
San pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kipei is out of range and San settles back down.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kipei throws a jab but it's blocked by San.
San lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kipei at a distance.
Nice cross by San.
Kipei shoots in for a takedown but San shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tokugawa San showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

San throws a nice looking combination but Kipei bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Tokugawa San seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
San works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

San scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kipei doesn't seem bothered though.

San gets caught flat footed, as Kipei shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Kipei postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks San out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Kipei goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Neho Kipei took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
