Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Czesio Niemen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Philco Hitachi! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Niemen's corner calls for a 1-2. Niemen obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Hitachi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Niemen but Niemen pushes him off and we're back to square one. Hitachi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Hitachi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Niemen has escaped the position, nice work there. Hitachi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Niemen wants to get back to his feet. Hitachi is trying to get an arm triangle but Niemen is defending well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hitachi tries for a kimura but Niemen is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Niemen is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Hitachi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hitachi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hitachi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Hitachi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Niemen pushes Hitachi away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hitachi gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Hitachi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Niemen has escaped the position, nice work there. Hitachi has an Americana. Niemen didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Hitachi is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Hitachi hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
