Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chuck Bass! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jesse McCoy! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bass tries for a takedown but McCoy circles away easily and McCoy counters with a shoot takedown. Bass fights it but they end up in guard. Bass looking for a guillotine here but McCoy defends easily.
McCoy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bass's head. McCoy trying to control the position from guard on top but Bass is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McCoy preventing the sweep. Bass is trying to keep McCoy in close.
McCoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. McCoy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bass's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bass trying to control but McCoy postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCoy wants to pass the guard but Bass is defending well. Bass keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. McCoy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bass is not content to let McCoy control the position. McCoy missing with the ground and pound from half guard. McCoy working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Nice strikes from McCoy there. McCoy looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Bass tries to roll over but McCoy keeps him under control. McCoy stops Bass from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bass avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McCoy. McCoy not landing any meaningful shots this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McCoy lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. McCoy looks to land a strike but Bass avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Bass keeping full guard, as McCoy tries to pass. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bass preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Hammerfist, elbow! yells McCoy's corner. There ya go! There ya go! McCoy with a nice head shot there. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McCoy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Bass is breathing heavily. McCoy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bass's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McCoy with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. McCoy landing some decent shots from guard. Bass on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bass tries to get out of the position. McCoy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. McCoy throwing strikes from guard but Bass blocks nicely. McCoy lands a couple of elbows. McCoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. McCoy is looking to work some ground and pound but Bass has wrist control. McCoy connects with a couple of short punches. McCoy scoring with some ground and pound. McCoy scoring with punches to the head and body. McCoy distracts Bass with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Bass is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McCoy throwing strikes from guard but Bass blocks nicely. Oh Bass is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's four minutes gone in the round. McCoy scoring with some ground and pound. McCoy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. McCoy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bass works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Bass seems to have got his legs back now. McCoy throwing strikes but missing. McCoy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. McCoy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. McCoy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McCoy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Bass keeping moving, preventing McCoy from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jesse McCoy dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bass with a poor takedown and McCoy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bass won't be happy with that. McCoy in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. McCoy moves into full mount! McCoy prevents Bass from getting the reversal. McCoy in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McCoy lands a big shot to the head and Bass winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
