PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Manay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Manuel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jeff Manay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jon Manuel!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manuel tries to clinch but Manay moves out of range.
Manay moves out of range as Manuel strikes.
Manay looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Manuel throws a jab when Manay was well out of range.
Manay stuffs the takedown attempt from Manuel. Manuel gets slowly back to his feet.

and Manay counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Jeff Manay wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Manuel drives through with a takedown into guard.

Manuel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Manay manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Manuel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Manay wants to control the pace but Manuel is squirming around nicely.
Manay throws some wild stikes that Manuel manages to avoid easily.
Manay sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Manay goes for an armbar but Manuel turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Manuel.

Manuel working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Manay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Manuel on the ground.

Manuel won't let Manay get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Manay is breathing heavily.

Manay is in a horrible position here. Manuel smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Manay tries to lock up and control but Manuel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Manay can't escape the position.
Manuel landing shots from mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Manuel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Manay is in a horrible position here. Manuel smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Manuel dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Manuel will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Manay is looking to clinch.
Manay shoots for a double leg takedown but Manuel sprawls well. He's pushed Manay's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Manay counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Manay.
A frustrated look appears on Manay's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Manuel gets control of Manay's arms and successfully pulls guard. Manuel will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Manuel has control of Manay's left arm, preventing Manay from doing any damage.
Manay passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Manuel is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Manay swings around for an armbar but Manuel sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Manay's guard.
Manuel connects with a couple of short punches.
Manuel lands a couple of elbows.
Manay could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Manay is trying to keep Manuel in close.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Manuel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Manuel scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Manuel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Manay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Manay seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Manuel manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Manay keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jeff Manay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Manuel.

Manuel is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Manay is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
