Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oleg Rienstien! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Tomandsen! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab from Rienstien. Rienstien lands a jab to the head.
It looks like Ben Tomandsen has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rienstien shoots for a double leg takedown but Tomandsen sprawls well. He's pushed Rienstien's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Rienstien throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tomandsen's waist but Tomandsen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rienstien off to one side. Tomandsen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Tomandsen has a takedown stuffed. Tomandsen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Tomandsen wants to control from the top but Rienstien keeps moving. Rienstien really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rienstien wants to stand but Tomandsen is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tomandsen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rienstien is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rienstien has escaped and now he's on top! Rienstien passes Tomandsen's left leg - he's now in half guard. Tomandsen wants to control but Rienstien is keeping busy and won't allow it. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rienstien connects with a nice short shot to Tomandsen's temple. Rienstien throwing shots but Tomandsen is blocking nicely. Tomandsen looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Rienstien sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tomandsen defending well though. Tomandsen tries to roll over but Rienstien keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rienstien is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Rienstien working Tomandsen over with strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rienstien wants to free his trapped foot but Tomandsen is holding on for dear life with his legs. Tomandsen looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rienstien lands with a punch from half guard. Tomandsen is trying to maintain the position but Rienstien is very close to passing his half guard. Tomandsen looks gassed! Tomandsen looking for submissions off his back. Rienstien thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Rienstien lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Tomandsen quite badly. Tomandsen pulls Rienstien in close trying to recover. Rienstien postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Tomandsen on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Tomandsen doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Oleg Rienstien!
