Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yosi Sayas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yosi Sayas has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yosi Sayas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shawn Sherk!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sherk shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sayas looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Sherk winds up and cracks Sayas with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sherk takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sherk missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sherk thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sayas's head.
Ground and pound from Sherk.
Sayas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sherk.
Sherk winds up and cracks Sayas with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sherk performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Sayas wants to get back to full guard.

Sherk not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sherk wants to free his trapped foot but Sayas is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sherk perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Sherk is stalling here. Sayas is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sherk seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sayas has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Sherk isn't going anywhere.
Sherk sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sherk is looking for a sweep. Sayas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sherk is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sayas blocks the strikes from Sherk.
Sherk is looking to control Sayas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sherk avoid being mounted?
Sherk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sayas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sherk gets back to full guard.
Sherk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Sayas trying to control but Sherk is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sherk is pulling down on Sayas's head. It's preventing any offense from Sayas, at least for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sherk can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sayas wants to stand but Sherk is controlling his arm.
Sherk is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sherk sneaks back into half guard.
Sherk is looking for a sweep. Sayas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sayas trying to control from half guard but Sherk is working away.
Sherk should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Sayas is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sherk is pressing down on Sayas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sherk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sayas is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sherk wants to control from the top but Sayas keeps moving.
Sayas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sherk trying to control the position from guard on top but Sayas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Sayas misses with a takedown

and Sherk counters with a single leg into guard. Sayas didn't expect that.
Sayas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sherk desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Sherk wants to get back to full guard.

Sayas won't allow Sherk to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sherk seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sherk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sherk controlling the position.
Sherk keeping moving, preventing Sayas from controlling successfully.
Sherk pulls Sayas in close to prevent any damage.
Sayas wants to stand but Sherk is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sherk has his hands on Sayas's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shawn Sherk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sayas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sherk scores with a crisp jab that stopped Sayas in his tracks.
Sayas closes the distance looking to clinch

and Sherk counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sherk chips away with some ground and pound.
Sherk seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Shawn Sherk has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sherk won't allow Sayas to sweep him here.
Sayas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sherk controls the pace.
Sherk lands a couple of elbows.
Sherk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sayas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sherk stays in close to Sayas's body and controls the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sherk won't allow Sayas to get back to his feet.
Sherk advances position into side control!
Sherk is looking to take a break and control but Sayas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sayas tries to improve position but can't.

Sherk works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Sayas is being controlled here.

Despite being in the dominant position, Shawn Sherk just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sayas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sherk counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Sayas gets caught flat footed, as Sherk shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.


Sayas is rocked!
Sherk stands and throws Sayas's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Oh Sayas is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Sherk is putting a hurting on Sayas here, landing some big shots from side control.

Sherk grinds an elbow into Sayas's temple.
Sherk lands a strong strike to the head of Sayas. That's dazed him! Sherk looking to finish here. Sayas is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Sherk lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shawn Sherk!
