Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grand Speed! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Kukuev! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kukuev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Kukuev shoots in and drives through. Speed sprawls well. Speed throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kukuev shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Grand Speed has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikolai Kukuev. Kukuev moves out of range as Speed strikes. Kukuev tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Speed swivels and escapes. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Kukuev fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Speed avoids it really well and circles away. Kukuev ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Speed looks to land a left hand but Kukuev moved out of range nicely. Speed throws a series of punches but Kukuev avoids them all with ease. Kukuev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Speed to the ground. Kukuev is now in Speed's guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Speed keeping moving, preventing Kukuev from controlling successfully. Kukuev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kukuev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Speed is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kukuev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Speed is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kukuev, into his guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kukuev is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Speed has his hands clasped together but Kukuev extends an breaks Speed's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kukuev.
