Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maia kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Vida Bandida. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Demian Maia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Hawk! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A good leg kick by Maia. Maia displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hawk. Hawk tries to clinch but Maia moves away and Maia counters with an outside leg kick.
Maia thuds his shin into the meat of Hawk's side. Hawk looks gassed! Maia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Maia passes Hawk's left leg - he's now in half guard. Maia is figuring out what he wants to do next. Maia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Maia is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hawk is just riding it out for now. Maia eventually gives up the hold. Maia slips a nice elbow through Hawk's hands, connecting with Hawk's forehead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia is looking for a kimura here.
Maia is trying to control the action in half guard but Hawk is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hawk regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Maia. Hawk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Maia won't allow Hawk to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Maia with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Maia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hawk's guard. Maia scoring with strikes to the body and head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Maia works his foot free and advances to mount. Hawk has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Maia's lack of action.
Maia working over Hawk with some ground and pound. Hawk looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hawk defends it well. Maia frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Maia scoring with strikes but Hawk is staying in there. Maia looking for a guillotine from mount but Hawk is having none of it. Hawk is working to get back to half guard.
Maia looking to finish Hawk with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hawk!
It looks like Mike Hawk has been cut. Maia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Maia lands a heavy elbow. Maia is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Hawk goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Maia!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Demian Maia! A very excited looking Demian Maia made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
