Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Merceli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George St pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maximus Merceli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George St pierre!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merceli has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
St pierre leaves Merceli with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
St pierre's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and St pierre duly obliges.
Nice uppercut lands for St pierre. That snapped Merceli's head back.
Merceli has a takedown stuffed.
St pierre lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

St pierre shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Merceli napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

St pierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no St pierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

St pierre is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Merceli knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The ground and pound from St pierre seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

St pierre goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Merceli rolls with the submission and now he's on top in St pierre's guard! Nice work there by Merceli!

St pierre is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Merceli lands a couple of elbows.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

St pierre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Merceli can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

St pierre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Merceli doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Merceli manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

George St pierre dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

St pierre is working for takedown but Merceli is calmly controlling the position for now.

Merceli looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? St pierre is fending him off so far but Merceli persists. Nope, St pierre circles away and we're back to standing.

Merceli shoots for a double leg takedown but St pierre sprawls well. He's pushed Merceli's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maximus Merceli. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Merceli changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. St pierre tries to avoid it but Merceli manages to keep hold of a leg and drag St pierre to the ground. St pierre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

St pierre looking to sit in guard and control but Merceli gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

St pierre is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now St pierre is on top in guard.
Merceli might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

St pierre drops back looking for a leg! Merceli is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Merceli manages to kick St pierre off! St pierre jumps back into Merceli's guard.

St pierre moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Merceli has worked his arm free - good work by Merceli!

St pierre throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

St pierre thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

St pierre goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Merceli has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for St pierre but great work by Merceli.

St pierre manages to work his way to half guard, despite Merceli's best efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


St pierre fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Merceli has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

St pierre decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
St pierre throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Merceli shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A left lands for Merceli.
George St pierre is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Merceli misses with a shot to the body
and St pierre counters with a three punch combo that has Merceli backing up. Merceli nods at St pierre to acknowledge the strikes.

Merceli shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches St pierre napping and manages to drive through into side control!
St pierre regains half guard.
St pierre is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Merceli's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Merceli's back!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

St pierre is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Merceli with him. Merceli is trying to defend but St pierre has an arm under the chin now! Merceli grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). George St pierre!
George St pierre was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
