1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Luis Barrera! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Schoots looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Schoots throws a jab but it's blocked by Barrera. Barrera lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schoots circles away quickly and effectively. Schoots checks a leg kick. Romano Schoots seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Barrera slips under a jab from Schoots. Schoots tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barrera swivels and escapes. Barrera misses with a series of wild punches.
Barrera tries to bum rush Schoots with a series of wild strikes but Schoots uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Barrera keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Schoots uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barrera. A looping hook to the body misses from Schoots. Barrera does a little dance to reset his feet. Barrera moves out of range as Schoots strikes. The fight stays on the outside here - Schoots looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Schoots misses with an uppercut. Barrera saw that one coming. Schoots tries to clinch up but Barrera circles away and keeps his distance.

Schoots turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Schoots manages to end up in side control. Barrera is trying to get back to half guard. Barrera is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Schoots asserts his dominance and retains side control. Schoots tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Schoots grinds an elbow into Barrera's temple.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barrera gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Schoots trying to pass the guard but Barrera defending well. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Schoots content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Barrera is refusing to be controlled, as Schoots sits in half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Barrera manages to get to full guard.

Schoots is trying to control the action in half guard but Barrera is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schoots trying to pass the guard but Barrera defending well. Barrera kicks off Schoots and gets to his feet. Schoots misses with a hook. Schoots uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Barrera. Schoots throws the left hand but Barrera avoids the punch easily. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Schoots seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Schoots throwing strikes but missing. Barrera is looking to stand up but Schoots isn't so interested in that idea. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Barrera connects with a nice short shot to Schoots's temple. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Schoots makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Schoots. Schoots preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Schoots trying to keep a closed guard but Barrera is proving a slippery customer.

Schoots lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Barrera misses with a two punch combination.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Barrera cracks a nice hook into Schoots's ribs. Schoots tries to clinch up.
