Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Markakis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Pepper! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pepper has taken the fight to the clinch.
Pepper is pushing Markakis up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Pepper stops a takedown attempt from Markakis.
Markakis prevents a body shot from Pepper. Pepper lands a nice uppercut. Markakis looking for a takedown. Pepper blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Markakis lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Pepper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Markakis is working away from the top position though. Markakis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pepper works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Markakis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pepper is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Markakis with a flurry of punches that miss. Markakis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Markakis stands and steps away. Pepper gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Pepper is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Markakis takes a shot right to the bread basket. Pepper wants to slow Markakis down by chopping away at his legs. Pepper catches Markakis with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Pepper lands a nice shot that snaps Markakis's head back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pepper misses with a low kick as Markakis jumps back. Pepper lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Pepper connects with a good right hand that stumbles Markakis. Markakis circles away out of range and recomposes himself. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Markakis slips a jab and a cross from Pepper.
Markakis's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Markakis duly obliges. Peter Pepper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Markakis on the wrong end of a nice hook. Pepper has managed to clinch.
Markakis is working for takedown but Pepper is calmly controlling the position for now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Markakis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Markakis pulls guard. Pepper must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Markakis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pepper is sitting in close to Markakis's body. Markakis has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Pepper is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Pepper is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Markakis.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Nick Markakis! Nick Markakis really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Kobra Clothing Inc. logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
