Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hank Chavez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Stylez! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stylez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chavez gets a takedown into half guard. Chavez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chavez missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Chavez not landing any meaningful shots this time. Chavez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chavez wants to take a breather but Stylez is having none of it. Chavez throws a strike but Stylez avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Chavez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Chavez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Chavez trying to control but Stylez is working from the bottom. Chavez is looking to work some ground and pound but Stylez has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chavez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Chavez sitting in guard here, content to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stylez wants to stand up but Chavez is controlling him. Chavez passes Stylez's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Chavez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Stylez! Stylez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chavez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Chavez jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stylez manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chavez is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Stylez looks calm but he's in trouble here. Chavez gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Stylez is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Chavez lets go of the hold and Stylez can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hank Chavez!
