PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akira Kurosawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ip Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kurosawa's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, War drums. Man comes into a darkened arena with his song building. kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ip Man!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurosawa takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Kurosawa chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Man can pounce on him.
Man closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kurosawa circles away.

Man bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kurosawa is looking for a sweep.
Man remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kurosawa tries to work over Man's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kurosawa blocks a body shot from Man.

Kurosawa gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Man is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Man keeping moving, preventing Kurosawa from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ip Man.
Man feints and then cracks Kurosawa's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kurosawa down.
Kurosawa throws a leg kick but Man checks it.
Man looks to land a right hand but Kurosawa moved out of range.
Kurosawa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kurosawa swinging wildly here.
Man fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kurosawa has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Man lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Kurosawa throws a hook but Man avoids it easily.
Kurosawa moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Man thows a body kick. Kurosawa tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Kurosawa takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Man throws a series of punches but Kurosawa avoids them all with ease.
Man throws a solid leg kick but Kurosawa takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Man.
Man throws the left hand but Kurosawa avoids the punch easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kurosawa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Man connects with a solid leg kick.
Man tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kurosawa paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No joy there for Kurosawa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Man misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kurosawa.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Man.
Man pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Man has Kurosawa up against the cage in a clinch.
Man lands a right hand.
Man blocks an uppercut.
Kurosawa jumps guard but Man turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Man lands a left hand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kurosawa drops down looking for an ankle pick but Man pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kurosawa scores with a jab to the jaw.

Man gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kurosawa is fighting to break Man's control of his arms but Man is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ip Man hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Man dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kurosawa. That did some damage!

Kurosawa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Man defends it easily.
Man loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Man is trying to trip Kurosawa. He has hold of a leg but Kurosawa is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Man persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Man takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
