PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johns comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome to the jungle. The crowd seem to be enjoying Reyes's choice of entrance music: All the Above. Stevie Reyes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Junior Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stevie Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johns throws a sloppy body shot
and Reyes counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Johns looks to score with a jab to the body but Reyes is just out of range.
Johns throws a predictable looking body shot
and Reyes counters with a nice uppercut.
Reyes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johns moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Johns gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Junior Johns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johns shoots in and gets a takedown into Reyes's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Reyes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reyes is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Johns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reyes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Reyes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johns. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johns throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Johns passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Reyes is looking to regain half guard here but Johns keeps moving and retains side control.

Johns creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Reyes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Johns throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reyes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Reyes tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Johns fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Johns tries for a kimura but Reyes is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Reyes pushes Johns away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Johns gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Johns is trying to get an arm triangle but Reyes is defending well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Reyes parries the strikes from Johns easily there. Johns is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Reyes to escape.
Reyes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Johns tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johns has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Reyes can't do much from the bottom here.
Johns throws an elbow but Reyes slips to the side and avoids it well.
Reyes tries to improve position but can't.
Johns postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Johns lands a few punches from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johns wants to control but Reyes is keeping him busy.

Johns is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Reyes looks calm but he's in trouble here. Johns gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Reyes is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Johns lets go of the hold and Reyes can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Junior Johns!
Junior Johns really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that -OVERDOSE Factory- logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
