PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan comes to the cage accompanied by Finish em ALL. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Don Juan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Smith!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Juan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Juan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Juan leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Juan throws a one two combo.
Smith shoots in and drives through. Juan sprawls well.
Juan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Juan fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Juan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith is fighting to break Juan's control of his arms but Juan is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Juan is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Juan is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Don Juan.
Smith wants to clinch

and Juan counters by moving into the clinch.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Juan has double underhooks.
Juan managing to block the knees to the body from Smith.
Juan wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Juan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Juan creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Juan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Juan swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.

Juan closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.

Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Juan has double underhooks.
Juan tries to pull guard but Smith forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Smith tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Juan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Juan looking for a sweep. Not yet Juan, not yet.
Juan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Smith avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Juan is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith stands up and waves to Juan to follow him.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Juan shoots in.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
Juan throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Smith slaps away a takedown attempt from Juan, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Juan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Smith sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Juan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Juan or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.

Smith moves forwards but Juan connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Juan rushes Smith and presses him up against the cage.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Juan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Juan's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Juan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smith seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Smith has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Juan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Juan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Juan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Juan pushes Smith off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Juan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smith tries to avoid it but Juan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smith to the ground. Smith escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Smith manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Juan on his heels. He'll look to pass Juan's guard now, I'm sure.

Juan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Juan misses with a head kick.
Smith wants to clinch up but Juan keeps it at a distance.

Smith looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Juan is fending him off so far but Smith persists. Nope, Juan circles away and we're back to standing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Juan clinches up against the cage.
Juan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Smith gets the underhooks and prevents it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Juan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Smith fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Juan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Juan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Juan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Smith takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Don Juan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Juan keeps control of Smith as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Smith swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Smith has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Juan after a bit of a struggle.
Juan is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now.

Smith wants to control from the top but Juan keeps moving.

Juan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smith has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Juan.

Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Juan walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Juan dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Juan's head and hops out.

Juan shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Juan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Don Juan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Juan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
