PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Hayz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Rodey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hayz comes to the cage accompanied by Hollywood Undead - Dead in Ditches. Rodey has chosen Ice Ice Baby as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Hayz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Rodey!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rodey swivels and escapes.
Rodey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hayz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rodey misses with a jab, cross combination.
A swing and a miss from Rodey.
Hayz tries to move into range but Rodey moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hayz shoots in for a double leg but Rodey sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hayz walks into a stiff left hand from Rodey.
Rodey misses with a hook. Hayz ducked under it nicely.
Hayz moves out of range of the strikes.
Hayz tries to clinch up
and Rodey counters with a stiff right hand.

Hayz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Hayz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodey is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rodey wants to hold on but Hayz pushes him away.
Rodey is desperately trying to improve his position but Hayz has a good base and remains in mount.
Rodey sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Hayz is looking to advance position but Rodey won't allow it.
Rodey manages to get to full guard.
Hayz won't allow Rodey to sweep him here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hayz passes Rodey's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rodey is trying is best to control the position here.
Hayz trying to pass the guard but Rodey defending well.
Rodey keeping hold of Hayz's head, controlling as best he can.
Rodey wants to get back to his feet.
Hayz is thwarting Rodey's attempts to control the position.
Hayz with the ground and pound but Rodey uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Hayz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rodey seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hayz throws a strike but Rodey rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Rodey is stalling in the full guard.

Hayz has his foot on Rodey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rodey works his way back into a safe position though.
Hayz is breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rodey stays in close to Hayz's body and controls the position.
Hayz trying to keep a closed guard but Rodey is proving a slippery customer.
Rodey would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Rodey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hayz's guard.
Rodey trying to control the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Rodey dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rodey wants to clinch

and Hayz counters with a shoot takedown. Rodey fights it but they end up in guard.
Hayz preventing the sweep.
Rodey lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hayz!
Rodey tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hayz is desperately trying to improve his position but Rodey has a good base and remains in mount.

Despite being in the dominant position, Sean Rodey just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hayz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rodey connects with a jab.
Rodey catches Hayz with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Dustin Hayz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rodey scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Hayz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rodey counters with a stiff right hand.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rodey misses with a hook
and Hayz counters with a nice uppercut.
Rodey misses with a double jab.

Rodey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rodey throws out a loose jab but Hayz uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rodey scores with a leg kick.
Rodey looks to land a combination but Hayz avoids it well.
Rodey pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

and Rodey counters with a straight right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hayz moves out of range as Rodey strikes.
Rodey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hayz keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rodey.
Rodey lands with a hook. Hayz tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hayz.

Hayz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hayz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodey keeps working.
Rodey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hayz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rodey can't do much from the bottom here.

Hayz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rodey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hayz is looking to take a break and control but Rodey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hayz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rodey has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rodey is not content to let Hayz control the position.
Rodey regains half guard, as Hayz was trying to land strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Hayz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Rodey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Rodey counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hayz thinking.
Hayz is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Rodey counters with a single leg into guard. Hayz didn't expect that.
Rodey controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hayz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rodey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Let's hope that Rodey has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rodey throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hayz's head.
Rodey tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hayz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sean Rodey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rodey throws a series of punches but Hayz moves out of range.
Hayz bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hayz fails with the takedown
and Rodey counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Hayz checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hayz dodges the punch combination from Rodey.
Hayz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Sean Rodey seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rodey stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rodey looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rodey scores with a nice strike.
Oh Hayz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rodey lands a nice shot to the body.
Rodey throws an overhand right that has Hayz reeling! Rodey follows up with a more punches and Hayz is out cold! This one is all over!
