PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wolly Baffoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baffoon has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Mauricio Rua could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Wolly Baffoon's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wolly Baffoon!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua keeps the fight on the outside.
Rua looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Rua clinches up against the cage.

Baffoon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Baffoon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rua bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Baffoon is trying to get back to half guard.
Baffoon wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Rua scoring with punches from side control.

Rua decides to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rua moves into range and clinches up with Baffoon.

Rua successfully pulls guard.
Rua is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baffoon tries to get to full guard but Rua has control of the leg.
Rua controlling the action here.
Rua moves into full mount! Baffoon won't be happy about that!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A nice elbow there by Rua.
Rua scoring with strikes but Baffoon is staying in there.
Rua could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rua controlling the position easily from mount.
Baffoon is working to get back to half guard.
Rua cracks Baffoon with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Rua lands with some strikes.
Rua raining down shots from the mount!
Rua avoids the attempt from Baffoon to control.
Rua has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Baffoon tries to control the position but Rua now has his back.

Rua wants to control but Baffoon is keeping busy.

Rua has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Baffoon has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rua patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Baffoon trying to control the hands but Rua won't let him.
Baffoon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Rua dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Baffoon doesn't manage to clinch there - Rua circles away.
Baffoon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rua stuffs the takedown attempt from Baffoon. Baffoon gets slowly back to his feet.
Rua misses with a body kick.

Rua fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Baffoon sprawls well initially but Rua persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rua is thwarting Baffoon's attempts to control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rua is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Baffoon is defending against the submission attempts here by Rua.
Rua works his way into full mount!
Baffoon really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Baffoon is trying to reverse the position but instead Rua has taken his back - oops!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Rua controlling the positon.
Baffoon trying to control the hands but Rua won't let him.
Baffoon is trying to get back to his feet but Rua has full control of the position and if anything, Baffoon has just worked his way into a worse spot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua is riding his opponent, not letting Baffoon buck him off.

Rua is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Baffoon is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mauricio Rua!
