The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blais misses with a body shot.
Souza throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blais's waist but Blais gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Souza off to one side. Souza is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Blais just misses with a punch to the body.
Blais will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Blais shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Souza eats them both and turns towards Blais to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Blais lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Souza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Blais is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Souza is controlling him. Souza wants to control from the top but Blais keeps moving. Souza prevents Blais from getting back to his feet. That's one minute gone in the round. Souza showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Thiago Souza has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Souza decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Souza connects with a nice short shot to Blais's temple. Blais is trying to stand.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Souza in particular looking to stall. Blais is in trouble now - Souza has advanced to mount! Souza looks gassed! Souza quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Souza but it's paid off an Blais is forced to tap! Nice work by Souza .
