Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between YB Sol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paolo Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sol's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, SFIV - Theme of Ryu 2. Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!The key to victory for YB Sol has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, YB Sol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paolo Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sol misses with a looping right.
Sol avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mendez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mendez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sol sprawls well initially but Mendez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sol is looking to control Mendez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sol avoid being mounted?

Mendez is looking for a kimura here.

Mendez wants to stand up but Sol has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Sol wants to control but Mendez is keeping busy.
Sol is looking to improve his position.
Sol is in trouble now - Mendez has advanced to mount!

Mendez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sol throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sol doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sol shoots in and drives through. Mendez sprawls well.
Mendez slips under a jab from Sol.

Mendez goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sol is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sol manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mendez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Mendez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mendez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mendez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sol swivels and escapes.

Sol looks to score with a jab to the body but Mendez is just out of range.

Sol not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mendez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sol is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mendez, into his guard.

Sol stands and throws Mendez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that YB Sol will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sol won't allow Mendez to sweep him here.
Sol tries to stand but Mendez is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sol thows a left - swing and a miss!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sol keeps the fight on the outside.
Mendez stuffs the takedown attempt from Sol. Sol gets slowly back to his feet.

Mendez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sol regains guard immediately.

Mendez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sol looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sol looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sol!

Mendez tries to bench press Sol off him but Sol keeps the position.
Sol wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendez keeps working.
Mendez is looking for a sweep.
Sol wants to control but Mendez is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sol is pressed up against the cage. Mendez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sol down to the mat. Sol avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Sol looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendez is fending him off so far but Sol persists. Nope, Mendez circles away and we're back to standing.

Mendez takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sol misses with a series of wild punches.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sol throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mendez clinches but Sol breaks the clinch
and Sol connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sol lands a really nice looking cross but Mendez seems unphased.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sol misses with the combination.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sol changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mendez tries to avoid it but Sol manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mendez to the ground. Mendez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for YB Sol. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sol throws a shot to the body.
Mendez tries to clinch up but Sol circles away and keeps his distance.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that YB Sol will probably get the nod.

Sol cracks Mendez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Mendez is trying desperately to improve position.
Sol putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Mendez is working to get back to half guard.
Mendez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

And that's the end of the fight!
YB Sol showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sol has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
