Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luke Reed! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akira Sendoh! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Sendoh misses the target. Sendoh misses with a looping left. Reed throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Reed doesn't manage to clinch there - Sendoh circles away.
Reed lands a head kick. Sendoh smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Reed throws a right and a left that both miss. Sendoh defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Reed. Akira Sendoh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Reed showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sendoh.
No joy there for Sendoh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Reed tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sendoh swats him away and circles back towards the center. Reed misses with a double jab.
Sendoh tries to bum rush Reed with a series of wild strikes but Reed uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Reed lands with a slapping head kick. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sendoh lands a jab. Sendoh swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sendoh lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Reed circles away quickly and effectively. Reed is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sendoh sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Reed slips a straight right by Sendoh. Sendoh throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
No joy there for Sendoh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reed takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Sendoh tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reed was well out of range. Poor timing from Sendoh. Sendoh feints with a jab and clips Reed right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Reed is sent crashing into the canvas and Sendoh leaps in for the kill! Reed tries to get to his feet but Sendoh is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Reed is in need of a savior and steps in!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Akira Sendoh!
