14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lance Jackson! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rankinstein connects with the punch. Jackson wants to clinch up but Rankinstein keeps it at a distance. Rankinstein lands a glancing blow to the side of Jackson's head. Jackson tries to clinch but Rankinstein is having none of it. Jackson wants to clinch up but Rankinstein keeps it at a distance. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jackson is defended easily by Rankinstein. That kick from Rankinstein tenderised Jackson's leg. Jackson is trying to keep his angry face on. Nice shot by Rankinstein. Derrick Rankinstein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rankinstein clinches up with Jackson and pushes him back against the cage. Jackson let out a lung full of air as it connected. This has been an exciting period of action! Rankinstein tries to work over Jackson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Rankinstein is trying to push Jackson away but Jackson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Nice elbow from Jackson. Jackson tries for a takedown. No joy.

Rankinstein was covering up waiting for the punch and Jackson finishes the takedown easily into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Jackson trying to control but Rankinstein is working from the bottom. Jackson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rankinstein dives on top into guard. No, Rankinstein has managed to get both his arms back between Jackson's legs - danger averted. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Rankinstein controls from within his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rankinstein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rankinstein trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Derrick Rankinstein wasn't doing enough on the ground. Rankinstein circles away from the clinch attempt.

Derrick Rankinstein is winning the standup battle so far. A lazy left from Rankinstein finds it's target. Jackson tries to clinch up and Rankinstein counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Rankinstein lands with a shot to the body. Jackson tries to clinch up. Derrick Rankinstein is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jackson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Jackson on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rankinstein moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. A decent looking body kick lands there for Rankinstein. Rankinstein circles away from the clinch attempt and Rankinstein counters with a solid body kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson moves forwards but Rankinstein connects with a nice, crisp jab. Jackson wants to clinch. Jackson wants to clinch and Rankinstein counters with a right hand to the body. Jackson moves to clinch but Rankinstein breaks away letting Rankinstein counter with a right hand. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rankinstein fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it. Jackson has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Jackson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rankinstein manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rankinstein lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Jackson tries to clinch up. Rankinstein closes the distance and pushes Jackson back into the cage. Rankinstein blocks an elbow strike. Jackson throws an elbow but it misses.
