Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mizuto Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaemus Melroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Melroy's choice of entrance music: Hell Yeah. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mizuto Gomez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shaemus Melroy! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melroy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Melroy looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Gomez scoring with some ground and pound. Gomez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Gomez chips away with some ground and pound. Gomez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Gomez trying to control the position from guard on top but Melroy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gomez content to stall in guard here. Gomez is working Melroy over from the guard. That's one minute gone in the round. Gomez advances to half guard. Gomez passes the guard and advances to mount! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gomez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gomez controlling from mount. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Melroy tries to hold on but Gomez pushes him away. Melroy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gomez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gomez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Melroy can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Melroy is looking to get to half guard. Melroy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Gomez trying to control but he's not successful this time. Gomez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Gomez trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gomez moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Melroy has worked his arm free - good work by Melroy!
Gomez looks up at the clock and then as Melroy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gomez smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Gomez controls the position. Gomez cracks Melroy with a big right hand but Melroy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gomez lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. A lull in the action here. Gomez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Mizuto Gomez just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Gomez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gomez lands in his opponent's guard. Gomez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Melroy is on top in guard.
Gomez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Gomez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gomez keeping moving, preventing Melroy from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mizuto Gomez dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Gomez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Melroy sprawls well initially but Gomez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Gomez looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Gomez works his way into side control. Gomez working the ground and pound from side control. Melroy wants to get back to his feet. Gomez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Melroy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Melroy is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gomez with a nice head shot there. Melroy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gomez controls the pace. Mizuto Gomez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gomez is pushing down on Melroy's leg trying to pass to half guard. Melroy is fighting to maintain full guard but Gomez has managed to sneak the leg through. Gomez is controlling the pace.
Gomez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Melroy for as long as he can get away with. Gomez trying to control from half guard but Melroy is working away. Gomez working the head and body with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gomez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Gomez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Melroy keeps working. Gomez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Gomez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ground and pound from Gomez. Gomez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Melroy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Melroy wants to get back to his feet but Gomez drags him back down. Gomez controlling from side mount. Gomez is working to tighten is grip on Melroy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Melroy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Gomez is really squeezing tight and eventually Melroy passes out! Gomez breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
