PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kale Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stuart Wray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cruz comes to the cage accompanied by Welcome to the Jungle. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Stuart Wray!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wray is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Stuart Wray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cruz scores with a nice head shot.


It looks like Stuart Wray has been cut.

Wray gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Cruz misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The referee calls for Cruz to work.
Cruz prevents a body shot from Wray.
Wray has a couple of punches blocked by Cruz.
Wray tries a body shot but Cruz blocks it.

Cruz has picked Wray up - he's going for a ride! Cruz dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cruz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Wray wants to get back to full guard.
Wray is refusing to be controlled, as Cruz sits in half guard.
Cruz is pressing down on Wray's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wray is holding on for now.

Cruz wants to take a breather but Wray is having none of it.
Cruz prevents Wray from improving his position.
Cruz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wray keeps working.
Wray is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wray blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cruz.
Wray is looking to improve his position.
Wray moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wray looking for a sweep. Not yet Wray, not yet.
Cruz throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Cruz wants to control from the top but Wray keeps moving.
Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Wray has wrist control.
Cruz trying to control but Wray is working from the bottom.
Cruz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Wray avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cruz.
Cruz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Wray tries to roll over but Cruz keeps him under control.
Cruz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wray defending well though.
Cruz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wray wants to get back to full guard.
Cruz throwing shots but Wray is blocking nicely.
Cruz is just content to waste time from the top position. Wray takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Wray is trying to control the position but Cruz postures up.
Cruz stands up over Wray, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Wray keeping full guard, as Cruz tries to pass.
Wray utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cruz postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Wray is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cruz postures up.
Cruz throws an elbow that misses. Wray uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cruz's guard. Nice move by Wray!
Cruz is controlling Wray's posture.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cruz wants to sweep here but Wray controlling him for the moment.

Cruz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wray defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kale Cruz dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Stuart Wray's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wray throws a leg kick
and Cruz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cruz pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Wray fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cruz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Cruz throws a big shot that misses.
Wray tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cruz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wray fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cruz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Wray swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wray throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wray uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cruz.
Cruz checks a leg kick.
The fighters circling - Cruz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

That's one minute gone in the round.

and Cruz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cruz wants to control but Wray is keeping him busy.
Kale Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wray trying to hold on to Cruz's head to control him but Cruz postures up.
Cruz trying to control from half guard but Wray is working away.
Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Wray is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cruz works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cruz misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Wray is looking to improve his position but Cruz isn't that keen on the idea.
Cruz with a couple of short strikes.
Cruz looking to control but Wray is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Wray is working to get back to half guard.
Cruz scoring with strikes but Wray is staying in there.
Cruz controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cruz pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


Wray is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cruz postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Wray badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Cruz around the waist but Cruz pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Cruz is the winner by TKO! Cruz jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kale Cruz!
Kale Cruz retains his lightweight title!
A very excited looking Kale Cruz made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
