PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Jeferson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Good (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Anthony Jeferson ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nate Good! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jeferson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Good quickly recovers to half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Jeferson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Jeferson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Good for as long as he can get away with. Jeferson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Anthony Jeferson just wasn't active enough. Jeferson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Good as he avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Good tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jeferson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Good moves into range and clinches up with Jeferson . Good throws an elbow but it misses.
Jeferson can't get the takedown.
Jeferson gets a trip takedown into half guard. Jeferson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Good wants to get back to full guard. Jeferson is taking a breather. Good says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Jeferson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Good doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jeferson .
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jeferson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. This has been an exciting period of action! Good wants to get back to full guard but Jeferson has passed into side control. Jeferson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Jeferson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jeferson cracks Good with a big right hand but Good just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jeferson controlling from side mount. Jeferson is chipping away with strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jeferson is working to tighten is grip on Good's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Good has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jeferson is really squeezing tight and eventually Good passes out! Jeferson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Anthony Jeferson !
