Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Benevidi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Cannon! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Benevidi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Benevidi lands with an overhand left. Cannon doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Benevidi lands a really nice looking cross but Cannon seems unphased.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown but Benevidi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Benevidi scores with a crisp jab that stopped Cannon in his tracks. Good exchange - Benevidi coming out on top. Cannon misses with a takedown attempt and Benevidi counters with a right hand to the body. Cannon looks gassed! Benevidi jabs Cannon right on the nose. Cannon blinks but takes it well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Benevidi cracks Cannon with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Benevidi scores with a hook to the body. Cannon takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Benevidi pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Cannon back to the cage. Benevidi follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Cannon takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Benevidi swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Cannon.
Cannon is rocked! Cannon doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Benevidi throws a shot to the body.
Benevidi is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Benevidi scores with a nice head shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cannon drops his hands momentarily and Benevidi takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Cannon is still on wobbly legs! Can Benevidi finish him? Cannon doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Benevidi takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Benevidi is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Benevidi feints with a jab and clips Cannon right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Cannon is sent crashing into the canvas and Benevidi leaps in for the kill! Cannon tries to get to his feet but Benevidi is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Cannon is in need of a savior and steps in!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Benevidi!
