The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paxio tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Earts connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Earts throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Paxio tries to reverse the position but Earts maintains control.
Paxio sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Paxio is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Earts pulls his head out easily.

Earts is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Paxio to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Paxio shrugs it off.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Paxio stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Earts swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Paxio thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Thiago Paxio will probably get the nod.

Earts takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Let's hope that Earts has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Jim Earts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Paxio shoots and misses
and Paxio takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Earts forces Paxio back against the cage and clinches.

Paxio ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Paxio no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Earts got a little sloppy there for a moment and Paxio has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Earts has managed to get both his arms back between Paxio's legs - danger averted.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Earts remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well Earts has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
