PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paul Allison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Allison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jin Kong!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allison misses with a series of wild punches.
Allison lands with a nice body punch.
Allison connects with a single shot there.
Allison stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Kong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Allison is trying to break the clinch but Kong has him pressed against the cage.
Kong misses with an elbow over the top.

Kong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kong closes the distance and clinches.

Allison is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kong is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Allison to the mat. Allison regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Allison is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kong defends well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kong seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kong postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Allison is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kong, into his guard.
Kong pulls Allison in close to prevent any damage.
Allison in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kong doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Kong wants to sweep here but Allison controlling him for the moment.
Kong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Allison. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kong working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Allison.
Kong wants to improve his position but instead Allison has moved into half guard.
Allison prevents Kong from standing back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Allison not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Allison throws a strike but Kong avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Allison missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kong trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Kong is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
A frustrated look appears on Allison's face as he tries to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong misses with a knee strike.
Allison wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Kong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Allison on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Kong misses with a takedown attempt - Allison sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Allison displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kong.

Kong forces Allison back against the cage and clinches.

Kong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kong shoots in looking for a takedown. Allison tries to sprawl out of it but Kong keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Allison manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Paul Allison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jin Kong.
Horrible takedown by Kong or perhaps it was just good defense by Allison which made him look bad.
Kong closes this distance looking for a takedown but Allison circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kong shoots in but Allison avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Allison misses with a combination
and Kong counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kong misses with a wild combination.
Allison stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Allison wants it to stay on the feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Allison just misses with a punch to the body.
Kong shoots for a double leg takedown but Allison sprawls well. He's pushed Kong's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kong shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Allison as he avoids it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Allison's waist but Allison gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kong off to one side.
Kong looks gassed!
Kong showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Allison.

Kong pushes Allison up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Kong dominated that round.
That's time! Allison's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Kong gets a double leg takedown into Allison's guard.

Kong has gone for a leg lock! Allison slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kong's guard.
Allison wants to control from the top but Kong keeps moving.
Allison throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Kong looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kong can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kong seems keen to control Allison's posture.
Allison postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Allison preventing the sweep.
Kong is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Allison working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kong working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Allison.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kong wants to stand but Allison is controlling the position.
Kong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Allison has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Allison doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Allison manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kong looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Allison has picked Kong up and slammed him! Kong can't keep hold of the triangle and Allison manages to pass to side control!
Kong manages to get back to half guard.
Jin Kong has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kong gets full guard.
Allison throws a strike but Kong rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Kong is stalling in the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Allison swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kong looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kong in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jin Kong wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kong shoots in for a takedown but Allison shows good takedown defense.
Allison waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kong.

Kong drives through and clinches with Allison against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Allison can't break the clinch.
Allison wants to break free but Kong has control.
Kong is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
A short left from Kong.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Kong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kong dodges the punch combination from Allison.

Kong clinches with his opponent.

Kong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kong shoots in but Allison avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A right-left combo lands from Allison.
Allison throws a right and a left that both miss.

Kong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kong throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Allison works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kong throws a strike but Allison rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kong holds on and takes a little breather.
Kong's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jin Kong hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Allison just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kong prevents Allison from breaking the clinch.
Kong is trying to pull guard but Allison has him pressed against the cage.
Paul Allison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jin Kong.

Kong drags the fight down to the ground.
Kong controlling the position.
Kong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Allison's guard.
Kong with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kong sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kong gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kong shoots in and bounces Allison off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kong showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Paul Allison has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jin Kong was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Kong fails with a takedown attempt.

Kong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Come on Kong - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Allison tries to throw a body punch but Kong avoids it by throwing Allison back against the cage.

Kong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jin Kong is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kong dives in and scores a takedown into Allison's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jin Kong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
