PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miksu Rupunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rupunen has chosen Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bob White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Miksu Rupunen!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
White throws a leg kick but Rupunen sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rupunen shoots in for a double leg but White sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
White throws a shot from downtown. Rupunen moves away and avoids it.
White listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
White scores with a hook to the body. Rupunen takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
White thows a leg kick but Rupunen checks it
and Rupunen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rupunen checks a low kick from White.
White takes a swing at Rupunen's ribcage but misses.
White scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

White gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rupunen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rupunen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as White works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
White is adopting a defensive guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rupunen controlling from the top position.
Rupunen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rupunen throws a big elbow that misses.
Rupunen scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
White is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rupunen is controlling him.
White keeping moving, preventing Rupunen from controlling successfully.
Rupunen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
White lands an overhand right.

Rupunen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rupunen showed some decent athleticism there.
Rupunen throws a strike but White avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
White working a defensive guard but Rupunen manages to pass into side control anyway.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
White is trying to get back to his feet.
Rupunen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White tries to escape but Rupunen is in control.
White is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rupunen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Rupunen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but White sees it coming and defends easily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Rupunen seems to be looking for submissions.

Rupunen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
White has hold of Rupunen's hands but Rupunen slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
White wants to control but Rupunen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Rupunen is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and White reverses the position - he's now on top in Rupunen's guard.
White slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White wants to stand but Rupunen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rupunen keeping full guard, as White tries to pass.
White wants to stand and escape but instead Rupunen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Rupunen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
White trying to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rupunen looking to sit in guard and control but White gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Miksu Rupunen will probably get the nod.

Rupunen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching White on his heels. He'll look to pass White's guard now, I'm sure.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rupunen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rupunen trying to control the position from guard on top but White is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Miksu Rupunen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Rupunen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

White is trying to improve his position.

Rupunen is trying to get an arm triangle but White is defending well.
The strikes coming from Rupunen are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
White is not content to let Rupunen control the position.
Miksu Rupunen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rupunen creates some space and throws a big elbow, but White sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

White is trying to buck Rupunen off.

White struggling a bit here.
White wants to get back to his feet but Rupunen drags him back down.

Rupunen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, White has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rupunen wants to control but White is keeping him busy.
Rupunen lands a nice forearm strike.

White regains half guard, as Rupunen was trying to land strikes.

Rupunen wants to lay and pray for a moment but White keeps working.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White is refusing to be controlled, as Rupunen sits in half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Rupunen is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, White has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miksu Rupunen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


White misses the shot to the body.
Miksu Rupunen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rupunen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rupunen is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
White wants to try and get back to his feet.
Rupunen thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Let's hope that Rupunen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rupunen lands a big shot there that rocks White but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Bob White has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

White can't escape the position.
Rupunen controlling the pace for now.
Rupunen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Rupunen connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
White is squirming around, avoiding Rupunen's attempts to control the action.
Rupunen scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish White?

Rupunen goes for an armbar but White turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from White.

Rupunen pushes White off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
White connects with a leg kick. Rupunen looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Bob White is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rupunen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but White avoids it really well and circles away.
Rupunen misses with a few strikes there.
Miksu Rupunen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
White misses with a body shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

White lands a left and a right that send Rupunen crashing to the mat, dazed. White thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Rupunen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
White misses with a straight right.
White ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rupunen moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Miksu Rupunen.
I've got Rupunen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
