PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aldo Raine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ari Gold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raine comes into the arena with ES Posthumus blaring out of the sound system. Gold has chosen All of the Lights as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aldo Raine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ari Gold!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raine shoots in looking for a takedown. Gold tries to sprawl out of it but Raine keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Gold manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Raine shoots in looking for a takedown but Gold manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Raine's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Gold will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Raine is defended easily by Gold.

Gold takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gold ducks under a wild hook from Raine.
Raine takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Aldo Raine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gold punishes Raine's body with a nice straight punch.

Raine shoots in for a takedown but Gold shows good takedown defense.
Raine takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gold cracks Raine with a right hand to the side of the head.
Raine tries to close the distance and clinch but Gold swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gold throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Raine tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Gold counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Raine rushes Gold and presses him up against the ropes.
Raine prevents a body shot from Gold.
Gold unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Gold struggles to land a body shot inside as Raine controls his hands.
Gold tries to throw a body punch but Raine avoids it by throwing Gold back against the ropes.
Gold tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Raine's elbow.

Gold misses with a punch to the body.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Raine breaks the clinch.
Raine lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gold circles away quickly and effectively.
Gold looks to land a left hand but Raine moved out of range nicely.

Raine rushes Gold and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Raine drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gold is pressed up against the ropes. Raine has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gold down to the mat. Gold avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Gold counters with a straight right hand.
Gold closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Gold throws a solid leg kick but Raine takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Gold.
Good exchange - Gold coming out on top.
Gold leaves Raine with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Raine lands the left hand.

Raine clinches up with Gold and pushes him back against the ropes.
Raine is trying to push Gold away but Gold has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
Gold scores a nice knee to the body.
Raine is breathing heavily.

Raine's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gold connects with a body shot.

Raine moves into range and clinches up with Gold.
Raine goes for a takedown attempt but Gold pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gold. Raine does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gold keeps Raine at a distance using the push kick.
Gold throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gold throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Raine closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gold to the mat! Gold manages to get full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gold keeping moving, preventing Raine from controlling successfully.

Raine trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gold's guard.
Gold is trying to control the position but Raine postures up.
Raine wants to control from the top but Gold keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Aldo Raine just wasn't active enough.
Raine takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gold takes a swing at Raine's ribcage but misses.
Good shot there by Gold.
Raine tries to clinch up but Gold circles away and keeps his distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ari Gold will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Aldo Raine is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Raine moves out of range of the body kick from Gold.
Horrible takedown by Raine or perhaps it was just good defense by Gold which made him look bad.
Gold fails in his attempt to clinch.

Raine uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gold.
Raine blocks a head kick by Gold.
Raine connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gold's hands.
Raine scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gold in his tracks.
Good leg kick by Gold there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Raine lunges at Gold with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gold's hand.
Raine misses with a series of wild punches.
Gold tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Raine is able to avoid easily.
Gold keeps the fight on the outside.
Raine shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gold pinned against the ropes. Gold gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Raine changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gold looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Raine swings around for an armbar but Gold sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Raine's guard.
Raine lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gold!
Raine wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gold gets back to half guard.

Raine seems to be working for a kimura but Gold defends the submission attempt.
Raine throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Raine trying to mount his opponent but Gold defends it.
Raine tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gold.

Raine is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gold is just riding it out for now. Raine eventually gives up the hold.

Gold is looking to control Raine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gold avoid being mounted?

Gold manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Raine has managed to clinch.
Gold crunches a lovely knee into Raine's ribcage.
A left hand lands to the body for Gold.
A hook to the body from Gold.
Gold goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Gold lands a body shot.
Gold lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Raine.
Gold taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Raine is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Gold gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Gold tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Raine avoids it.

Raine's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Raine dives in and grabs Gold's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gold pushes down on Raine's head and hops out.
Gold sizes up Raine with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Raine is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Gold dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Raine. That did some damage!

Raine throws a nice looking combination but Gold bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gold stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gold wants it to stay on the feet.
