The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benz has taken the fight to the clinch.
Benz gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Maia.
Benz misses with a short punch on the inside.
Benz misses with a punch on the inside.
Benz misses with a body punch.
Benz is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Maia's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Benz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Maia's half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Maia is looking for a sweep. Benz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Maia moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Maia wants to stand and escape but Benz is having none of it.
Benz stands up and waves to Maia to follow him.

Maia fails with the takedown
and Benz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dominickoy Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maia takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Maia shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Benz counters with a head kick. That will keep Maia thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
A solid leg kick lands there for Benz.

and Benz counters by clinching up.
Benz tries a body shot but Maia blocks it.
A body shot lands from Benz.

Benz doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Dominickoy Maia has been cut.
Benz misses with a punch on the inside.
Maia takes a shot to the head.
Benz tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Maia's elbow.
Benz lands with a short shot to the head.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Benz.
Benz fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Benz stops a takedown attempt from Maia.
Benz tries to throw a body punch but Maia avoids it by throwing Benz back against the cage.
Benz misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Benz drops Maia with a big right hand! Benz charges in looking to finish - Maia manages to keep Benz in his guard and seems to have recovered somewhat.
Maia is rocked!
Benz loads up on a big left hand. Maia felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Benz looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Maia can't hide his disappointment, as Benz celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Benz!
Mike Benz tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
