PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Munoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munoz comes into a darkened arena with his song building. GSP SONG kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Thiago Melo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Melo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Munoz!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Munoz pinned against the cage. Munoz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Melo tries to close the distance and clinch but Munoz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Munoz tries a low kick but Melo avoids it.
Melo lands with a nice combination. Munoz backs away looking to recover.
Melo moves away from the strike by Munoz.
Melo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Melo wants it to stay on the feet.
Munoz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Munoz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Melo swivels and escapes.
Some bone on bone action there as Munoz checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Melo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Munoz as he avoids it easily.

Munoz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Melo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Munoz is in Melo's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Munoz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Melo has an active guard here but Munoz has managed to pass into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Munoz connects with a nice short shot to Melo's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Munoz slips a nice elbow through Melo's hands, connecting with Melo's forehead.
Munoz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Melo is breathing heavily.
Munoz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Melo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Munoz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Melo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Munoz thows a huge punch but Melo dodges it nicely.
Munoz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Munoz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Melo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Munoz scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Munoz winds up and cracks Melo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Munoz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Munoz has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Munoz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

BOOM! Munoz connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Munoz landing strikes from the mount and Melo is in trouble!


Melo is rocked!

Whack. That's a big, big shot from Munoz! Melo is out cold! This one is all over!

Chuck Munoz bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
